June 28, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Midwest Soccer Club as a member starting with the 2020 Spring Season.

Based in East Peoria (Ill.), Midwest SC will begin play in the UPSL Women's Division Midwest Conference, and play its home games at Eastside Center (1 Eastside Dr., East Peoria, IL 61611) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Women's Division Midwest Conference Manager Ulises Ornelas said, "We welcome Midwest SC with open arms to the UPSL Women's Division. Midwest SC will bring a strong level of competitiveness to the Midwest Conference and that's what it's about – facing the best and bringing out the best in everyone. Good luck and best wishes to Midwest SC as they prepare for the 2020 season."

Sean Smith is Owner of Midwest SC. A native of Peoria (Ill.), Smith, 44, studied at Ladysmith (Wisc.)'s Mount Senario College and currently is a steel plant worker and a personal trainer. He will serve as Strength and Conditioning Coach for Midwest SC.

Midwest Soccer Club Owner Sean Smith said, "The reason I want to do this is because Central Illinois is without many options for young women trying to advance in soccer. We're a few hours away from Joliet and Chicago, and there's a lot of talent in this area so I figure, 'Why not give the players the opportunity to play?' I don't believe in wasting talent. I think you should take it as far as you can, and the UPSL is providing an opportunity for a lot of young players that didn't have one before."

Son Phan is Head Coach of Midwest SC. Phan, 49, is employed by Illinois-based Caterpillar Inc.

Pekin (Ill.) High School grad Jaylyn Smith, selected Most Valuable Player of 2017 Peoria area senior all-star game, will be among the players on the roster for Midwest SC.

Midwest Soccer Club will host tryouts at 4-8 p.m. CT on Dec. 15 at Avantis Dome (3401 Griffin Ave., Pekin, IL 61554). The club soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
