UPSL Announces Nevada Expansion with UNLV Futbol Club

Las Vegas, NV-based Club Joins Southwest Conference for 2020 Season

April 17, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce UNLV Futbol Club as its newest Division I member.

Based in Las Vegas, NV, UNLV Futbol Club will begin UPSL play in the 2020 Season as part of the Southwest Conference Las Vegas Division I. The club is finalizing its venue options in compliance with UPSL National Division I standards.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "There is a soccer resurgence happening in Las Vegas and we're excited to have UNLV FC join the UPSL. Owner Jordan Greenway has created a strong foundation for UNLV's first student-run soccer organization and made it a go-to spot for quality players on the UNLV campus. We're looking forward to seeing that talent in display in the UPSL."

UNLV Futbol Club was created in 2019 and finished second at the Collegiate National San Diego Aztec Cup last September. The club was playing in the West Coast Soccer Association (WSCA) before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club will now compete exclusively in the UPSL.

"After speaking with UPSL Commissioner Yan Skwara and doing our research on the league we knew that joining the UPSL was the perfect step forward for our organization. We created this club a year ago with the mission of becoming one of the premier club soccer organizations in the State of Nevada. We began last season by competing in the WCSA Collegiate Soccer League. However, after a year we knew that if we were going to achieve our mission we needed to take a step forward. That is why we chose the UPSL. We are one of the first student-run organizations to jump to a Pro Development league, and we are ready for the challenge. With our young leadership, we are looking to bring new ideas on how to run a soccer club to the UPSL," UNLV Futbol Club Owner Jordan Greenway said.

Omar Garcia, 30, serves as Head Coach. A native of Mexico, Garcia played semi-professionally in his home country before relocating to Las Vegas.
